Halfway Through 2017 #life

With the end of June coming in just a couple of days, I’ve been reflecting on this year. It hasn’t been the greatest. I had my share of emotional breakdowns, lamented the many medical issues plaguing my family, and despaired that I wouldn’t finish anything.

But there’s no point to focusing on the bad, right?

My husband and I celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary this year. We did one of those escape rooms. We’d done one earlier for my birthday back in March. We didn’t make it out when we were in a group with 6 others, and my husband insisted it was because the other people thwarted us. This time, it was just the two of us and we made it out with 14 minutes to spare. Goes to show we make a pretty good team.

We followed that up with street tacos and a trip to the candy store, before catching a showing of Wonder Woman on the big screen. I laughed. I cried. And then my husband and I caught some raw fish on the way home before binge-watching DC’s Legends of Tomorrow on Netflix.

Rough sketch as I acquaint myself with my new computer.

My best friend watched the kids for us, and it amused me when she said (with great surprise) that my son was really good. It would seem Babyzilla is only his terror-striking self when I’m around. But both kiddos enjoyed their adventures with their unofficial aunt and asked when I would be leaving them with her again.

Other notable things:

I’ve since dyed my hair aqua. I’ll have pictures later. My husband bought me an awesome 2-in-1 laptop. It’s strong enough to handle all my graphics software, plus it’s Windows Ink compatible, which lets me draw as if I were using a sketch pad. I also use it for playing WoW with my husband and, of course, writing.

I managed to finish one scene in the past week, so I finally met my goal with my accountability partner. This week, I’m fairly certain I can kill the character I want to kill. *crosses finger*

How has 2017 been treating you so far? Can you believe the year is halfway over? What are you celebrating lately?

  1. Hugs to you on the trials. And Happy Anniversary! Husband Unit and I just celebrated our 23rd. We saw Wonder Woman too. I thought it was amazing. Loved that movie.

Excellent on your goals. I’ve been working on my next novel. Trying to stay focused.

  2. Happy Anniversary! My significant other and his co-workers did one of those escape rooms as a team-building exercise. They made it out with eleven seconds to spare. 🙂

Best of luck killing your character!

Your rough sketch is amazing, by the way. Have fun with the new computer.

  3. Happy anniversary! So far my 2017 has been…interesting. The little one just had her 5th birthday about a week and a half ago and I think I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact I have to actually go school shopping for her this year.

And awesome about getting the scene done and being closer to killing off your character (though that just sounds odd to say XD). I may need to get myself an accountability partner as well. I’ve been messing around with side stuff, but not working on the major projects. Can I blame the fact that FFXIV dropped another expansion recently and I’m addicted to the story?

  4. It goes without saying, but happy anniversary! I’ve seen a few people post about Boise Escape and I’d love to try it. I’ve definitely had better years than 2017. I’m looking forward to being able to look back ten years from now and and thinking of it as that one year I kicked cancer’s ass 🙂

  5. Happy anniversary!
Good job on the puzzle room. That does sound like a lot of fun.

  6. Congrats on 11 years. You look like you both still enjoy a little fun.

My husband keeps threatening to get me a Surface Pro so we can chuck the giant beast of a laptop we own.

  7. Whoot, whoot! Congrats on the Anniversary as well as the other successes. Though I think it’s kind of weird to be standing holding a sign that says “We Did It” after being locked in a room with your husband for an hour.

My half year has been some major ups and downs, too. Maybe one day I’ll detail them all but probably not. For now I’ll just keep hoping for a couple of ups in a row.

  8. Happy anniversary!! Can’t wait to see the aqua hair!

  9. Happy anniversary! Glad you had a good time.
Good luck killing that character! I’m still trying to get through a chapter edit I’ve been avoiding for weeks.

  10. Happy Anniversary Loni. You two look really great together. I bet you are loving your new laptop too 🙂

  11. Happy anniversary. What is an escape room? I have never heard of such a thing.

    • It’s a themed room where they lock you inside and you have to find and figure out clues in order to get free within the 1 hour time limit. It’s pretty fun if you like solving puzzles.

  12. What a great way to celebrate you anniversary! Sounds like the two of you had a blast and are still going strong.

  13. Sounds like an awesome anniversary! And looking forward to seeing the new hair color – I wish I was brave/cool/creative/fun enough to do that. 🙂

  14. Happy Anniversary! We want to try an escape room too. It looks like it would be a ton of fun. Look at you guys getting out with all that time to spare. So awesome. Glad you had a blast. 🙂

  15. Congratulations and Happy Anniversary! What a great picture of you guys. I’ve never heard of an Escape Room before! I would never make it because I’m too claustrophobic LOL. Glad you had fun and got to get away from your troubles for a bit. I hope the second half of 2017 is much less stressful for you.

  16. Aqua? Well, why not. And 11 years…. that’s a long time, all right. Congratulations.

  17. I’ve heard of those escape rooms. Sounds like something I’d have fun with. My daughter definitely wants to go to one. Glad you made it out of yours, because nothing is more important than killing that character!

  18. Congrats! It’s sounds like it was a great way to celebrate.

  19. Congrats on your anniversary! It sounds like it was the perfect day. And that’s an amazing sketch.

Can’t wait to see the aqua hair. Aqua is one of my all-time favourite colors.

  20. That escape room sounds awesome!!! (Yes, I needed three exclamation points.) “my husband insisted it was because the other people thwarted us…” <- That is awesome, too. 😀 Congrats on that and it sounds like a kick-ass night all around. Happy Anniversary! Also, love the aqua. I bet you look amazing. Photos? The laptops sounds incredible and the new sketch is gorgeous. Your first paragraph here…I could have written that. I'm glad things have turned around. Or, at least, you're feeling better about everything. Cheers!
