Radio Silence and the Ever-Busy Squirrel #Life

In December, my webhost migrated my account to a different server. Since then, I’ve discovered emails from my website no longer work. I’ve contacted them and, after troubleshooting, they suggest reinstalling WordPress without any plug-ins to see if it’s a problem with my installation or if there’s something else.

I haven’t gotten around to that due to the general state of busyness I’ve been in. Therefore, if you use my contact form or have used my contact form since December… Sorry. I won’t see your email.

Compared to other years, 2020 is less ambitious. For the Colonel’s Challenge, I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I won’t meet the 30 hours of aerobic activity goal. I can’t get myself up in the mornings and my evenings are consumed by my children. I’ve simplified my resistance training to what I can accomplish at work, and that has proven to be 2 sets of 25 kettlebell swings using a 35 lb weight, and at least 16 pull-ups a day. My co-worker says the pull-ups count, so I’m going with it, logging each one at a little under my actual weight.

My kids managed to break my illness-free record, and I spent a couple days with a fever and even longer with sinus congestion and an ever-lingering cough. I did finish a digital painting though (two actually, but only one is publicly posted):

It’s nice to see my improvement over the years. Admittedly, I got a bit lazy with the hair, but that just leaves something else for me to work on.

I’m still playing catch up with everything else in my life. I’ve revised 8 chapters to reflect the major rearrange in Isto, and I’ve got a few more to go. Then it’ll be going through the entire book one more time. It’s been a long process, longer than I anticipated, but it’ll be better for the book in the end.

  1. Oh, yes. I looked at my word count log for my current WIP and realized that in a couple of months, I’ll have been working on it for a year. I’m only 20k into a full-length novel. Sad.

    It’s good to be blogging again, though.

  2. Glad you’re making progress. My writing goes way slower than I plan. But I plug at it when I can.

  3. I’m so proud of you for all your progress…on everything! And as far as 2020 being less ambitious, I think you’re being realistic. Setting actual attainable goals. Like I’ve always know: you’ve got this!!

  4. Yes, my current manuscript has gone two years over when I should’ve finished it.
    Just do what exercise you can. Better than none!

  5. Pretty much everything I do ends up taking longer than I expect. I’ve been working at allowing things to take as long as they take, and not worrying too much about how long something is going to take me to get done. It’s a slow process.

  6. On the bright side, whenever I want to write, but can’t find the time, the words build up in my head and they are easier to write when I have time. I think writers are always writing- even when they have no keyboard.

    Modifying goals to make them attainable is the only way to survive child raising. I adopted the “good enough” standard when mine were little and they all turned out fine.

  7. A lot of things take me longer than I expect. A flash fiction collection I finished today I had hoped to get done in December.

  8. Fitness continues to be a struggle for me now too. It’s that darn teaching. At least two days a week I can walk home, though. That’s something. Hope to get back to working out in the early a.m. again.

  9. I’d have to say most of my writing takes longer than I expect/hope. But I do just keep plugging away. And come to think of it, that pretty much describes the fitness routine, as well.
