Today is the first Wednesday of the month. That means, it’s time for Insecure Writer’s Support Group!
You can find the sign up for the IWSG here. We owe Alex J Cavanaugh a huge thank you for thinking this blog hop up.
As you may or may not have seen, I’ve been running a blog tour for my new novella release, This World Bites. This in itself is enough to make me insecure. But that’s not my primary insecurity. I trust those who signed up for the tour, and it’s been fabulous so far.
But I can’t help think of all the stuff I’m not getting done. It’s overwhelming. Why haven’t I figured out everything in book 2 of the ninier series yet? Why don’t I have more written on Lust, a novella I have to finish by the fall for The Seven? Why, when I sit down at my computer, do I start to panic?
I’m not blocked, but gosh darn it, I’m not very productive either.
I think the problem stems from the illnesses that has plagued my family since the turn of the new year. We’ve gone a month with off-and-on fevers, hacking coughs, inhalers, runny noses, and sore throats. One person gets better as another person gets sick. Is it just too much to ask that we all be healthy at the same time?
This isn’t like the blog tour. I can’t rely on other people to get sleep and feel better for me. Everyone at the Town’s End is sick and cranky.
On a plus note, my son has laryngitis, so we’ve had respite from his usual ear-piercing scream. Yay?
Please wish me luck at weathering this sick time and getting back to being productive. And then, head on over to Holly Sinclair’s blog and check out my interview!
The creeping crud is never fun. Spring will be here soon… π
IWSG #143 until Alex culls the list again.
Hope everyone gets to feeling better soon. I know that feeling of not getting things done, when they need to already be done or further along is frustrating. One step at time, one little thing as you can manage it and when you look back you will see you have done more than you thought. Wishing good health and productive inspiration.

Take care and I hope everyone in your family is back to 100% soon. You’ve definitely had more than your share of illness lately. On the plus side, your blog tour totally rocks!
I’m sorry everyone’s been sick. During my blog tours, I found it hard to do anything other than check my guest posts because my mind was just so consumed with the tour and worrying about getting my story out there.
Take care, Loni!
It’s the nut stash, always distracting to squirrels. In truth, I’ve had similar distractions. That flu has been bouncing around here and then we had a little blizzard up here, followed by a huge snow storm. It makes me want to curl up with hot cocoa and books.
I hope you and your family feel better soon. Sickness has been raging around here too. Our household hasn’t seemed to shake it these past few months. Onward to the interview!
Loni, I’m totally wishing you better. It stinks to be sick, especially when little ones are relying on you. I’m excited about the tour though and off to hit a few stops. Yay!
Do you need some clones?
Great interview at Holly’s place.
I’m sorry to hear you and your family are sick. I don’t know what I’d do if my hubby and I were sick at the same time, ‘coz one of us has to be well enough to make food and medicine runs. Launching and promoting is a huge time suck. It’s a wonder you’re getting any work done on your writing at all. Good luck, and feel better! π
It stinks to be sick. the bug has been here, too. I’ve been hacking away for two and a half weeks! It’s really hard to feel motivated and secure when you feel awful! You’re doing awesome plowing through it all on your tour. Keep going!
I feel for you. Being sick is no fun at all. Mostly when you have more important things to do than feeling indisposed. Get well soon!
It’s hard to write when life keeps messing around with you schedule. Eventually everything will return to normal and the writing will take off again.
Aw, it’s no fun when everyone sick, and even worse when it hits everyone at different times! I got a chuckle out of your mention of your son’s laryngitis and therefore the lack of his ear-piercing screamβI guess there’s one good thing that’s come out of all this. π Poor guy. Hope everyone starts feeling better soon and you can start being more productive!
Sick family? Not cool. Not cool at all. My girlfriend is in the same situation. Maybe not with the laryngitis, but her, her husband and two kids are perpetually sick. This past winter, at least. Hopefully everyone everywhere will feel better, like, tomorrow. Oh, Loni, you got this. You’re a writer AND a mom AND a wife AND a ninja AND a squirrel? AND super talented. I have no doubt you’ll get everything you set your mind to done. Hang in there lady π
I remember one New’s Year’s Eve, we came home and the babysitter puked all over the floor. It started a new year of the flu in our house. It prowled from one kid to the next, all five, and then my husband. Yuck!! I was thankfully saved! Hope the family beats it asap!!!
OK, there’s a lot of sick going around. That makes it hard. I find it hard to get back to writing after completing a big project. Shrug. You’ll get there. I’m sure. π Yes, I’m psychic… or that may be the NyQuil talking.
Hope all gets better in the house of Loni. Being sick sucks. Having sick family members sucks. Having sick kids WHILE you are sick really sucks. I’m sure this is an overwhelming time for you–stick with it. Hang in there. (Do you want any more cliches thrown at you?) Be well. Take a break if you need it. We will be here.
It’s no fun being sick, esp with it going around. Hope things look up soon! Take care!
Hope everyone recovers soon! π
I hear you there. All of last week, every time I sat down to work on plots, I just plain didn’t want to. >_< Hope you can get back to it soon and that all goes well when you do.
Um, scuse me, but aren’t you in the middle of a blog tour? Which includes writing a ton of posts, keeping track of each one, advertising each one on social media, reading and responding to all comments, and returning blog visits?
What was that about not being productive???
Seriously, give yourself a break and then a pat on the back. This tour is amazing and it’s a ton of work. Once it’s over, you’ll be able to get back to writing π
I hope you got my email confirming your stop with my blog! so excited for your post and your release!! π
so sorry to hear about your illness in the house! i saw you at christine’s blog and had to stop by and say congrats! hope the tour is going well, it looks wonderful. shake those sick winter blues and carry on!
You may not think you’re being very productive, but you’ve been doing one heck of a blog book tour. That’s something!

Oh my, you do sound overwhelmed. Being sick, and having a sick family is no fun. I hope you all gt better soon. Good luck with the tour Loni.
You are being productive despite the illness, so don’t put yourself down. Keep pushing forward.
You do need to give yourself credit for all you’ve done with the blog tour. That’s a ton of work. Concentrate on getting well. Your WIPs will wait for you. Heading over to Holly’s.
I hope everyone gets well soon! It can be so hard to get to other things while you are on a blog tour. They take up so much energy.
I loved your interview over at Holly’s place…
It was a classic Bear meets Squirrel moment! And the squirrel made the bear blush. Charming.
Congratulations with the blog tour!
Hope you and everybody else feel better soon.
So sorry to hear about all the sickness. No wonder you can’t concentrate. And good luck with the tour!
