Do you participate in #NaNoWriMo?

Posted on October 14, 2015January 9, 2017 by Loni Townsend

This is my fourth year doing NaNoWriMo. Unfortunately, this is also the fourth year of me trying to make some serious progress on book 2 of the niniers series. Oh, I’ve met my 50K goal every year. But the problem is that up until a few months ago, I haven’t had all the details worked out.

Looking at the title and description of my 2012 NaNo novel, I can tell it was before I did a complete rewrite of Thanmir War, in which a character underwent a dramatic change that affected the rest of the series. Pretty much all of that got scrapped.

In 2013, I wrote a huge chunk for a single POV. I’ve since reworked about 6K of that into story that I intend to keep. Actually, a lot of the events will stay the same, but the timing was off. There’s this earthquake that all the POVs experience. My brain says they have to happen on the same day, which meant I had to figure out how to get my character from one province to another by the time the quake hit. After much reworking, I ended up not using much of this NaNo novel in my current draft.

Things are looking hopeful for the 2014 version. I avoided the POV I wrote in 2013, and focused on two others. I’m still going to have to toss a large chunk because I’ve since reworked my plan. But at least I get to keep my pygmy mud wrestling.

Here I am at 2015, looking to put more words to Isto. Thankfully I’m not trying to be a career author, otherwise I’d be failing miserably. I will get this book done. I wonder if it’ll be this year.

If you want to track me down on NaNoWriMo’s site, my username is hippiechos.

Do you NaNo? What’s your username? Have you ever had trouble finishing a project?

I was contemplating on doing my first NaNo this year but have decided not to. It would just be another huge distraction from completing the rewrites of my début novel. I’ve put it off long enough so November is the month to complete that! Feel free to check up on me 🙂

    Wishing you lots of fun!

Yay! Someone else joining in NaNoWriMo! Added you as a writing buddy. My name is JeiC.

Okay, with that said, I barely won my first NaNo and then had a 5 year span of not reaching 50K. Those projects still lay in digital pieces to this day. However, from the ashes of one, I decided to go follow a different character. 5 years, no wins, no hope of actually finishing, but I wanted to humor my friends and cheer them along. Then I finished. I’m still polishing that book, but the change of perspective put me back in the writer’s chair.

NaNo killed me. Seriously. I write the same amount over a one to two month period when I’m ready to, not over the holidays. Too much happening in November to write an entire novel.

Best of luck with NaNo. I won’t be doing it. I have the Realms Faire, will be finishing the next release, and starting a new book. Then there are those pesky holidays to prepare for.

I don’t. I tried once but it was too much pressure. BUT, I am going to try an meet the daily writing goal any who. Best of luck to you! (I’m AKA Southpaw there).

I have never even tried this. Never wanted to. But seeing as I have no books in print, perhaps I should. Ha! No. Maybe. Not this year. At least there’s pygmy mud wrestling. You know? O_o
Good luck. Always cheering on the NaNoWriMo writers form the sidelines. With pom-poms.

As I said on my blog, I’m thinking about doing NaNo this year just because I have something I’d like to write but not worry about. >_< Writing that many words won't be a problem, but figuring out how to redo this story already is, so I don't know if I'm going to participate or not. Gah.

I’ve done NaNo a couple times and finished and then tried again but didn’t finish so I haven’t tried again for the past couple of years. I don’t plan to do it this year, but I’ve been known to change my mind at the last minute.

After ‘wins’ in 2011, 2012, and 2013, last year was a total non-starter. This year I will be attempting a complete re-write my mystery “Fates Maelstrom”, with an extra protagonist and a new setting. But concerned about meeting the word count and staying healthy.

Anyway, my NaNo name is Silverwords – and I’ve added you to my Buddies.

I’m doing NaNo again. I’m usually a hybrid pantser/planner, but this time I’m going for more of an outline. I need something to give me a full draft – beginning/middle/end – no matter how stinky. 🙂

I’ll look for you next time I’m on the NaNo site….

Oh yeah. I’ve have trouble finishing a project. I did Camp NaNoWriMo this last July to help me finish up book 2. (Its second time through NaNo, by the way.) I added 60,000 words, but didn’t actually finish the novel. It’s still not done.

I had planned to use November NaNoWriMo to jump start book 3, because book 2 was supposed to be finished, so now I don’t know what I’ll do. Probably end up skipping it again, sadly.

I did NaNo for several years, and I wanted to do it again this year until I realized I would lose two weeks out of the month for family. Maybe I’ll do my own NaNo in January! Good luck next month. I’ll cheer you on! 🙂

This is the year. You can do it!

As for me, I’ll just keep trudging along. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can… LOL

I’m still working on my 2013 NaNoWriMo novel. Thought I’d have it ready to submit but going to use another year to polish, polish and polish, especially on the micro level.
