Featured Photo Friday

Posted on May 9, 2014 by Loni Townsend

Two years ago, I told my husband, “I want a tree in the back yard.” He quizzed me on what type, and I answered in a series of non-committal grunts. Yes, I know, extremely helpful. But he knows me pretty darn well (and one would hope, considering I married him). I came home to find a bare-limbed stick poking out from the ground.

Finally, this year, it bloomed.

cherry blossoms

Cherry blossoms are one of my favorites. One day, I hope to go to Japan during the cherry blossom festivals. Until then, I will stand in my back yard and pretend.

What’s on your bucket list? What do you think of this featured photo?

That’s sweet that he knows you well enough to have the audacity to bring home a stick and plant it… πŸ˜‰ Beautiful blossoms!

Beautiful blossoms. Good things come to those who have patience. Your stick finally blossomed. WOOHOO!

I am looking forward to the crabapple blossoms on the Laura tree that we planted in memory of our daughter 22 years ago, just beside our bedroom window. One year a robin made a nest in the tree and had four babies. I love to see everything coming to life this time of year, including me! I’m not blossoming though. At least I don’t think so. Wilting maybe. πŸ˜‰

I love this time of year with all the gorgeous cherry blossoms and red bud and magnolias and crab apple trees blooming their heartwood out.

Japan in almost any season is on my bucket list. πŸ˜‰

And it seems your man knows you well! That tree was an awesome pick!!

How beautiful! I wish they lasted longer.
I want a Japanese Maple in my front yard. I have to get rid of some ugly bushes first, bushes full of birds. Such a dilemna.
    Happy weekend!

    Hi, Loni,

GORGEOUS PIC… The house I grew up in had a beautiful cherry tree in the yard. It was magnificent…

FUNNY, I have the same dream! I’ve always wanted to go to Kyoto for the cherry blossom festival. Nothing could be more exquisite….

Pretty! Score another point for hubby. πŸ˜‰

The sun hits out house at the back corner (our bedroom) in the evening. I planted a Bradford Pear tree many years ago, in between the evening sun and the house. It’s not big enough that it blocks out the light. Soooo much cooler back there now. (And the tree is nice to look at, too.)

“A series of noncomittal grunts” — hey, that’s how I communicate too. Cherry blossoms make me think of Washington DC and The Last Samurai. So cool that you have your very own now.

Ah, I’m in awe of people’s ability to grow stuff, and from a stick. If it’d been me, it would’ve died a slow and painful death. I can murder cactus.

I’m the same way. My husband doesn’t let me touch the plants anymore, because they usually die shortly after. I won’t even bring up all of the orchids I’ve killed…

How gorgeous! I have a bunch of pines in my back yard. I wish the people who lived here before had planted prettier (smaller growing) trees like cherry blossoms or dogwoods. Now I just have huge trees and that cost me a fortune to remove.

My bucket list is so full anymore, I wouldn’t know where to begin!

GORGEOUS! Love cherry blossoms in full bloom. They are amazing.

And I happen to speak in “noncommittal grunts” as well.

How pretty, I love all flowering trees… and flowers of course. Oh to see the cherry trees bloom in Japan, definitely on my bucket list. I was lucky enough to cross one off my list when we visited Malaysia a few years back, and I got to see the Orchid Gardens in Kuala Lumpur. Still so many to go, though. πŸ˜‰
