Today is the first Wednesday of the month. That means, it’s time for Insecure Writer’s Support Group!
You can find the sign up for the IWSG here. We owe Alex J Cavanaugh a huge thank you for thinking this blog hop up.
Writing time is one of those valuable, limited resources. Lately, I’ve been too overwhelmed to be insecure.
My solution? Vacation!
That’s right, I’m on vacation this week. My kids are at daycare. My husband’s at work. It’s just me and my three dogs lounging by the pond, too far from the wireless to even get online.
Have you ever taken vacation to get some writing done? What do you do when you’re overwhelmed?
I AM SO JEALOUS!!! I keep dreaming of a time when I could hole up and write for like hours without interruption. Can I come hang out at your pond? I swear, I won’t chatter and interrupt…much.
You’re welcome any time, though my dogs might lick you to death.
Loni, that sounds like a great idea! Hope you get a lot accomplished.
I’d thought so too. 🙂 Thanks!
Way to go! I totally want to do that. We took off this last winter for a 5 day cruise to get some writing/plotting/planning done, and it was amazing. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
A cruise sounds even better than me hanging out in my backyard. Then someone would actually provide food!
I took my netbook on holiday with me a few months ago, and I actually got more done than I would have at home (possibly due to not having an internet connection!). Have fun! 🙂
Yes, the internet likes to suck up time like a kid with a slushie.
Let’s hear it for vacation! And recharged batteries and renewed vigor and more patience and excitement to jump back into the word fray! Yay!
Hip-hip-hooray!
That sounds lovely! In June, when both my kids were at camp, I had a whole week to myself to write. It was amazing. I hope you enjoy your self-made writing retreat!
Thank you!
I love my kids, but sometimes, I just need a break. 🙂
Aww, I’d love to hang out with you and your three dogs! Hope you have a restful week and get tons of writing done. 🙂
I’ve made great progress so far, so it’s looking hopeful.
Thanks!
Yay for vacation!! Relax, enjoy, and breath easy!
Will do!
Vacation. Sounds heavenly. Relax and enjoy. And write, write, write.
Woohoo! Enjoy that time off and get lots of writing done. Make it your own little writing retreat. 🙂
Yes, I’ve definitely taken vacations in order to get stuff done. But like ordering too much food when you’re hungry, I often find my ambitious plans are far in excess of what I can really accomplish. Good luck and have a great vacay! 🙂
Bet you will get a ton done too, unless around and around the pups decide to run.
I’m embarrassed to admit this, but I play Temple Run2 on my phone when I’m stressed. Or I mow the lawn with a gas lawnmower. I should go peddling on the lake, but I’m too lazy. Loni, vacation for me, will you? Have a relaxing time. I should send you my cat Marbles, who’s snoring in his box beside me.
Hope you & dogie are having a brilliant time!
Sounds relaxing. I missed last IWSG b/c I was on vacation. Having a break can be good for your mental health.
Wow Loni! That is a great idea. To bad my husband and I work together. There’s NO WAY he’d let me take time off without him. HA!
I hope you get a ton of writing finished (in between throwing balls in the pond for those dogs).

Yay! Enjoy! Hope you come back refreshed!
It sounds like a great idea! I’m finding myself too busy with all 4 kids at home for the summer. Enjoy!
So nice! I’d like too, but when I’ve tried work keeps creeping back in. Best of luck.
That sounds absolutely wonderful. I wish I could have a vacation like that. Hope you’re enjoying every second. 🙂
Hanging out at a pool with dogs licking you to death while you write in solace? Sounds like you have that part of writing all figured out. 😉
Thank you for visiting my blog site even though you are on vacation, Lani. I don’t take vacation so I can write because I am retired from by paying job. Now I write all the time. Last year, to help out someone, I used a timeshare on Maui for a week and called that my mini writing retreat. Does that count?
Being retired, I am (almost) in that happy position anyway. I’m still keen to get away in the camper for a few days, though, if only for a change of scene.
We are taking just a few days soon. I hope to disconnect a little to clear my thoughts and hopefully put some things in perspective as far as writing. Enjoy your vacation!
I want a pond 🙂 have fun.
Have a great time relaxing! We all need some vacation time 🙂
A whole week just to write?!!! I’m demanding that for my next birthday.
Lounging by a pond sounds wonderful. I am envious. I would love to take a vacation, but it’s really hard for me to get away without a car. Haha! Enjoy your time away! 🙂
I’m on vacation this week too! No lounging by a pond though, just lounging on the couch. =) I’ve meant to clean the shower and dust for the last two days…not done yet! Heh.
A writing vacation sounds wonderful.
A perfect vacation. Send everyone away except the dogs and let me write. 🙂
That sounds like paradise! I go on a writers’ retreat every year for 3 days with some of the members of my writers’ group. It’s heaven. I get up, write, go to meals, write, laugh with friends who understand, and get my writing mojo working.
Have a great writer’s staycation!
YAY. Hope you’re having a great vacation. I have heard of writers actually checking themselves into hotels alone to get writing done. It always sounded like a great idea to me!
Sounds perfect, Loni. I hit the beach with my board or the trails with my bike whenever I get overwhelmed. It’s a good way to release stress and pray and sort crap out.
Have a great time!
It’s a great idea, Loni and I hope you managed to get some good writing done! 🙂
Hi there! Thanks for visiting my blog!
Vacation? Yup. I often do that. It really helps when you take some time off to concentrate on writing. 🙂
i am so happy that you had a vacation and were able to write and enjoy-always needed
