It’s been a rough couple of weeks. Between illness, entertaining children (the bottles being one of the projects we’ve done), trying to fix my website plugins, and other projects, I haven’t been allowed much time to write. I’m only halfway to my goal of 50K for NaNoWriMo, and I’ve only got 8 days left in the month. But hey, I did make it further than last year, and it’s not due to lack of inspiration either. I’ve got visions dancing in my head of a character making a noble sacrifice and everything going terribly wrong.
Despite my laments of writing time or lack thereof, I’ve got some things to cheer about. I finally killed that character I’ve been meaning to kill since June! Plus Fues from the Cera Chronicles has made his entrance in the big books. And my main character exploded in a way that left me cackling. All in all, I think I’m going to actually keep most of what I’ve written this year, unlike previous years. And I’ve been pretty good at sticking to my map of scenes, meaning there shouldn’t be a whole lot of fixing needed later.
I hope all of you are doing well, and if you’re writing, I hope you’re getting a lot of words. And for those of you who have Thanksgiving tomorrow, I hope it’s a good one!
How has your month been? Have you had any writing triumphs? Got any plans for Thanksgiving (if you have it coming up soon)?
So wait, is the main character exploding the same character you planned to kill off? Because a dude just randomly disintegrating and blowing chunks all over the place is a brilliant way to go. 🙂
I don’t think I’ve done any writing this month (no, that’s a lie, I wrote like a paragraph last week), but I knew that it wasn’t going to happen so I didn’t plan to do NaNo. Even if you don’t hit 50,000 words, it sounds like you have gotten a ton of writing done (despite life complications), so kudos to you! May you gleefully murder more characters in the days and weeks to come.
Heh, no, actually the one I murdered is different from my main character who exploded. I guess bringing both up at the same time does reveal I like to kill people…er, characters, I mean. I like to kill characters.
Sorry to hear about the rough weeks, Loni!
I’m glad to hear your writing is going well overall. I’m still chugging along with NaNo. One minute I’m happy with my project, the next I want to throw it all out the window. Ah, the writing life! 🙂
I made those sand art things with my kids years ago. Most have been broken, but I still have a few decorating my laundry area.
I’d much rather have a small word count of good words than a massive amount that are good for nothing.
I’m glad to see you’re up and about and that your character, finally, is not. 🙂 So much for writing goals. Eh. Sounds like the writing is going pretty well for you, regardless. And I’m super curious how someone from Cera wound up in the BIG BOOKS. ? Happy Thanksgiving, lovely lady. (Cheesy as it is, I’m thankful for you. There. I said it. Can’t take it back…)
As an aside, I love the bottles. I want the bottles. How do we make the bottles?
The Cera Chronicles take place between books 3 and 4 of the Big Books, and all the characters appear as supporting characters sometime or another. Fues and Rin are both in book 2, behaving like their usual selves. Cera is actually a POV in book 3, though in third person and more serious.
Most of the bottle stuff I find is via Pintrest. They have lots of ideas for those crafty type stuff. There’s usually something shiny or colorful that catches my eye that I’ll pin as “DIY Distractions”.
Hooray for death and destruction (in your writing) – that’s only something you can say to a writer. ? Happy Thanksgiving, hopefully everyone is well enough to enjoy it.
I’m getting a fair amount of writing done, but then I have to go back and throw out most of it so it’s hard to judge my progress. But I’m pretty happy so far. Hopefully life and the family will allow me plenty of time to write during the Thanksgiving vacation. I hope you meet your NaNo goals, even if it doesn’t mean you get to 50K. Progress is what’s most important!
I like the bottles too. My daughter is always scouring the internet for directions on how to make unusual looking liquids that I can bottle up and use to decorate my office/potionmaster’s lab.
Yay for getting further in NaNo this year, and keeping a lot of what you wrote! Sorry to hear about the limited time and issues 🙁 But the writing sounds like it’s going well with all your characters finally cooperating. 🙂
Love those bottles. And this is probably the only place where you can talk about killing someone off and we’ll cheer you on 🙂 8 days is a lot. I’m sure you can get the rest of your words done.
The bottles are really lovely Loni 🙂 I am really excited for you and all of your huge hurdles you jumped over. Killing off a character is tough! Sticking to the outline map is tough too. I recently bought Scrivener and it changed my writing world by allowing me to see everything in one screen! Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving 🙂
Those bottles are really beautiful. I especially love the last one on the right.
Hooray for finally killing that character! It’s always a good feeling, isn’t it? I, too, love to kill off characters. 🙂
Sorry you’ve had a rough couple of weeks—hope things calm down for you soon!
Apparently something’s going around. I’ve been a bit under the weather for the past couple weeks and several folks have told me the same. How about we all get better before the Christmas holidays arrive.

Tossing It Out
The joy of finally killing a character is one only writers know. ^_^ Hope your writing continues to go well and you get as close as you can to the NaNo goal.
