Holiday from Insecurity #IWSG

Posted on July 3, 2018 by Loni Townsend

Since tomorrow is a holiday for us in the USA, Insecure Writer’s Support Group posting has been bumped forward a day. So you get a post today, while tomorrow I’ll be hanging with my kids out in the heat, ignoring all things digital.

What makes me insecure this month? Actually, nothing comes to mind. I figured out how to get past a point in my story that had me stalled out, so rather than hemming and hawing about what to write, I know how to proceed. Since nothing has me insecure, I’ll just jump to the question of the month.

IWSG Question of the Month – What are your ultimate writing goals, and how have they changed over time (if at all)?

Ultimate writing goals? To finish my series. That’s been the goal from the start and will be the goal until I’ve finally achieved it. As you can tell, it’s taking me YEARS. At the rate I’m going, it’ll take me decades more to reach my goal, but hey, if it wasn’t something big, they wouldn’t be ultimate, now would they?

What are your goals? Is tomorrow a holiday for you? Do you like to spend holidays offline?

Ultimate goals usually are big – that’s what makes them worthwhile. Every day is a holiday for me in the land of the semi-retired πŸ™‚ Having a BBQ tomorrow, but no fireworks. Hope you have a great 4th of July.

I will be mostly offline tomorrow. I’ll poke in and see how many post on the wrong day for IWSG though.

Our holiday (Canada Day) was two days ago, and it was about 47 degrees Celsius with the humidex. (About 117 Farenheit). Needless to say we spent most of the day hiding indoors. I hope you get slightly more enjoyable weather in your neck of the woods!

I like big goals. They get me out of bed in the morning. Here’s to that series, Loni.

You’ll get there. I’m fully confident. It took me having a contract and expectation to make it a reality, but it happened. You’ve got this.

It’s taken me a couple of decades to finish the first two books in my fantasy series. At this point, I’m just hoping it doesn’t take a couple more to finish the rest, but I won’t be surprised when it does. πŸ™‚

    We’ll both get there.

    Enjoy the holiday!

Ultimate writing goals? Hmmm. I just take one book at a time. I guess my goal is to finish my WIP and then move on to another. It’s been a journey-one that has lasted about 15 years. Don’t know where I’m going, but I’ll keep on the path and see what happens.

Have a very happy 4th of July!

I’d like to say I’m spending the holiday offline and with family, but I’ll be writing in my office while the bf plays XBOX in the other room. #patriotic

I definitely do not want to be online during the holiday, so I’m trying to return as many comments as I can today. As a cohost, this can be a challenge. Of course, there’s always Thursday, Friday. I have several ideas for books that would keep me writing for years as well.

Right there with you on the years! But I’m good with it. Must be something in the air – I just moved past a stalled point, too. I love it when that happens – the momentum kind of kicks back in! Happy writing!

Now that’s the crux – ultimate. I forgot about that and went for the immediate goal. You have the best approach, Loni., and you can do it. (100 degrees today here in Boise, so I hope you are keeping cool somewhere.)

Holidays are best spent offline, I agree. For us Canadians, the Sunday (July 1) was the holiday, and despite the rainy weather, it was wonderful. We’ve had a glorious summer so far, so really can’t complain about a little rain.

My ultimate goal is to make a sustainable living from fiction. It used to be “become the next Stephen King,” but I’ve downgraded a little. Now I just want to be free from worrying about money.

    Happy (belated) Fourth of July!

My writing goals have changed so much, and a lot had to happen to allow me to be able to find a viable writing path. I spent the Fourth on my family’s property in Montana. It’s totally off grid. I love it!

Yes, I took the Fourth off, but I scheduled the post on the Fourth anyway – because I wanted to wish everyone “Happy Fourth!” lol.
As for my goals, they include getting rejected 24 times this year. But my ULTIMATE writing goal is to write and get published a picture book so good that a young reader says, “I never liked [insert literary dislike here], until I read your book.”
