Into March #IWSG

Posted on March 5, 2025March 5, 2025 by Loni Townsend

Wow. This year is just zooming by. It’s already March and the first Wednesday of the month: Insecure Writer’s Support Group day!

I wrote almost 12K (11,951) in February! That’s not quite the 3200 a week I set, but it is almost 3K, which is uplifting. However…

March is always a busy month for me because of birthdays and spring break. This year, it’s particularly grand because my daughter and I are going on a trip to Costa Rica. It’s organized by both her middle school Spanish teacher and her current Spanish teacher, and since it’s her first big trip out of the country, I’m tagging along. My husband suggested I try shoving my son into my carry-on, but the boy is almost as tall as me, so he’s gonna have to wait until he takes Spanish in a year or two and then we’ll see if there’s a trip in the future for him.

While I’m on the trip, I won’t have my laptop, nor will I have time to write. That’s to be expected, of course, and it won’t affect my enjoyment. But I’ll have to pick up the slack in other weeks if I want to finish the book this year.

IWSG Question of the Month – If for one day you could be anyone or *thing* in the world, what would it be?
While I am already a squirrel, I think I’d be the more compact version of myself. The version that always lands on her feet and could scamper up trees without feeling her age. I think it’d be fun to sit up in the branches and eat peanuts for a day.

How was your February? Do you enjoy travel? What would you be, if you could be anything?

I wasn’t as original in my answer. But I did answer instantly. I’d be an eagle. There is something detached and extraordinary about them. I don’t know if it’s the attitude or the freedom. It is so nice that you’re going on a tropical trip. Have a wonderful time!

You and your daughter will have a grand time. I’ve been learning Spanish, so I could muddle through some conversations.

If I were a squirrel, I’d be Hammy!

My daughter and I were just talking about Costa Rica yesterday! She was learning about it in school.
Be safe and have a great trip! The writing can wait until you get back.

A squirrel…Of course, I should have known! You’ve made some good writing progress. I’d say you’ve earned a nice, relaxing March. Have fun in Costa Rica!!! I need to plan a family vacation soon, so I can’t wait to hear how it goes.

My goddaughter did a Costa Rica trip with her Spanish class when she was still in school. She had an amazing time. I hope you and your daughter do, too.

And nearly 12k in February is impressive! My yearly total isn’t even anywhere near your daily counts. Wow!

How was my Februrary? That’s a really loaded question that you don’t actually want the answer to. (My mother passed Jan. 31st. ‘Nuff said.)

Although, you can’t take your laptop on your trip? Not that I’m saying you should, but you might find some downtime… Just sayin’…

An agile squirrel! Perfect. Also perfect is the writing achievement. That’s very impressive. Keep up the great work, and enjoy Costa Rica.

Great wordcount! Isn’t that always the way…just when you start making progress, life throws in another speedbump. The trip is worth it, though. Go make some memories. And who knows? Your muse might be inspired along the way.

Wow – Costa Rica! A land filled with flora and fauna, colorful birds, buildings and people. Since you already are one with nature, because you identify as a squirrel (wink-wink), you’re going to love it!

That sounds like a blast! I love visiting other countries and getting a taste of their culture. Way to go on the word count! I haven’t been writing as much lately but goodness, do I feel those deadlines vicariously. March was pretty busy for me too… I hope your brain got a break & you came back refreshed.
