Whoops #IWSG

Posted on December 3, 2025December 3, 2025 by Loni Townsend

It’s still Wednesday! I still have time to make it for IWSG!

It’s December now, which means the year is coming to a close soon. I didn’t finish my rewrite of book 1, but I think I reached 75%, which isn’t too bad. It’s sitting at 128K right now, and I’m aiming to keep it to or under the 170K it was before. Though with the holidays upon us, I don’t know how much I’ll achieve before the new year.

We also adopted another dog! Oso, my massive 9mo puppy (who weighs 84lbs), loves to play. And I only get to take him to the dog park on the weekends. That means, by the end of the week, he’s going a bit wild. I figured a playmate would be a good solution, and I wanted a female dog who was older than him. We found a husky at the Humane Society who took well to my husband, so we did a dog intro and the two played well together.

Her original name was Beenie, but my husband didn’t like the name, so we’re calling her Sushiba. She’s 6 years old and was surrendered because she spent most of her days alone and it was causing dog anxiety.

So far, it’s been a bit of a rocky integration. She’s a resource guarder, including people. That first day, she wouldn’t let Oso get close to my husband, and as a result, Oso refused to come inside when called. (He’s in his moody teenager stage.) Food is worse. My husband’s hand got caught in the middle when she lunged at a treat meant for Oso. No broken skin, but definitely pain and some swelling. In another instance, she caught my leg. She also is obsessed with the guinea pigs and wants to hop up into the cage with them.

But today is only day three, and I didn’t think it’d be perfect without effort. She and Oso play well together, she knows which kennel is hers, and I am working on training. I’m pretty sure she didn’t get any training previously. Some routines have adjusted. I can’t leave the food out for Oso like I used to, so they are getting fed in their kennels right now to avoid her resource guarding, and all the toys are put up out of reach, so that if Oso approaches to play, she doesn’t think he’s coming to steal her toy (he really isn’t into taking toys, he’s more interested in the dog). And there is white fuzz everywhere.

So that is what my December is going to be looking like: training an old dog new tricks, and pressing to finish that last 42K of book 1.

What is your December looking like? Hoping to accomplish anything before the end of the year? Ever deal with a resource-guarding dog?

Maybe she will calm him a bit.

Nothing like adding another dog into the mix to make things interesting. 75% of the book is pretty good. Congrats. I hope you have an enjoyable December. And that the dogs end up finding a good rhythm together.

Huskies are VERY protective. Anyone ever comes near a member of your family, she will tear them apart.

75% is still a good percentage done.

You did a good amount of writing!

Huskies are smarty pants, so she’s catch on quick. The longer will be the resources, poor thing probably had to do some fending off.
