November 1st kicks off NaNoWriMo, and though I had high hopes of actually hitting 50K before the end of the month, those hopes have dwindled. I’m fairly certain I will fail, due to the sheer time or lack thereof. I can barely manage 300 words on a normal day, and it’s not due to lack of dedication or inspiration. You might see why I’m insecure.
But I’m going to try, regardless. I have the 10th off, all to myself. If I fall behind, maybe I can pull off 17K then.
P.S. The FULL DARK anthology officially released on Monday! Don’t forget to snag a copy on Amazon or B&N.
November Question – Win or not, do you usually finish your NaNo project? Have any of them gone on to be published?
Uh, no. In fact, my novel is titled “Good Grief, she’s trying to do it again” because this will be my 5th time trying to make a reasonable impact on the book I’m currently working on. *sigh*
What’s your history with NaNoWriMo?

You can find the sign up for the IWSG here. We owe Alex J Cavanaugh a huge thank you for thinking this blog hop up.
Good luck, Loni. 300 words a day is more than I can manage lately. Well done you!
300 words a day? I’d be happy with that right now.
All the best as you move forward on your writing projects.

Tossing It Out
Don’t set yourself up for failure. Believe in yourself and in your writing. Write what you can each day. Sometimes a journey starts with little steps not huge strides. Best wishes.
I love the title of your novel 🙂 I think Diane has great advice above. Do what you can and be happy with what you can do.
I love the title of your novel. It sounds like what I should be calling my maybe-not-a-romance because it’s gone through two NaNoWriMos now and is no nearer to completion than when I first started writing it.
And if you only get 300 words a day (and seriously, there’s no ‘only’ about that), then it’ll be 300 more words than you had before. Still a win.
Hi,
I’m laughing at the title of your novel. Good Grief… I can identify with that title sometime.
All the best with NaNo and take care.

Making an attempt will still net you more words than if you didn’t try at all. You can do it!
I’m sorry you’re frustrated but the title of your novel totally cracked me up! Alex is right, you’ll get something done just by trying. You can do it!
Congrats again on the anthology!!
Good luck with NaNo. I have been doing NaNo since November 2013 including camps in April and July. Congrats on the anthology. I have never won November NaNo, but have won camps.

Push on forward with it! You might surprise yourself. And 300 words is better than none… which is what I’ve done today. I should get off the internet and write!
Some people write slower than others. I’m like you–I can do about 600-1000 words at a time, but half of those are me whining about writing. But remember, slow and steady wins the race. (It’s true. There’s an actual video I saw via Twitter. Tortoise versus hare. Tortoise won! Seriously. I’ll dig up the link if you’re interested.)
Good luck with November! Even if you get 302 words a day, that will be a victory, right? 🙂
I can’t be bothered with NaNo. I’m never going to get 50K words in a month in my current situation. I did once write 40K in three days for the 3-Day Novel contest, but that was a long time ago, before kids and many other commitments…
Just wanted to wish you the best on the anthololgy. I saw it everywhere today. Congratulations.
Good luck with NaNo! And congrats on the anthology! I’d be thrilled for just the 300 words a day at this point. I always fail miserably at NaNo.
Hats off to you for even attempting NaNo! But any writing is better than no writing, in my humble opinion. Good luck!!!
Love the title. At least you’re doing this with a laugh in your heart. Good luck.

Maybe 5th time’s a charm?
I believe in you Loni 🙂
Whatever you do, I think the consistent writing is great. I really need to put at least 15 to 30 minutes most days of that kind of writing in my life.
Any words a day is a win! And I’ll be here to read it when you’re done.
Hey, no prob, kiddo. My creator agrees with you. Right now she can only manage the small stuff…ya know, like a cup of coffee, yawning, taking a nap, yawning, petting the dog, yawning, another nap…One step at a time, heh heh.
300 solid words beats 1000 crappy one…and I know you’re writing solid words.
At least you’re doing it. Hang in there!
Yes, good luck. I did NaNoWriMo once and worked on various short stories and essays. I’m not sure I’ll ever do it again as slow and steady seems to be more my thing, but if I did do it again, I’d go in with a detailed outline. Otherwise, I know I would flounder a lot.
Good luck with NaNo whatever you write. That’s the main thing. Oops I should be writing…but I’m not. (Back to work after a break and a surf on six.)
300 words a day is still about a page a day. Earlier this year, I was lucky to write a paragraph in a day (my brain wouldn’t work). Thankfully, I’m getting my writing mojo back. I think it was all the novel planning I did last month. The story is all in my head now. 😀 It’s a good and bad thing…I can’t seem to sleep at night (it’s nearly 2am).
I love the title. ☺ Someone once said time is fleeting — they were right. Best of luck getting that 17k in on the 10th!
I definitely hear you about trying over and over to make something work. Hope the fifth time’s the charm.
Sometimes we write more, sometimes less. Personally, as long as you’re making progress, I call it a win. I hope your efforts thus far are going well.
You can do this, Loni! If anyone can, it’s you! Best of luck. Especially tomorrow when you have that time to yourself.
Have a beachy week!
Elsie
Good luck with NaNo! And even if you don’t reach the 50k mark, you’ll have made progress in your book. 🙂
You got this! You can do it!
As for myself, I made the point of just kind of giving up on NaNoWriMo for now. I always want to and it always tickles my fancy but than I acknowledge that I just have way too much to do and am always inundated with other projects and writing so it would be silly to try and take on even more and accomplish nothing overall.
Hi Loni,
Feel free to add me as a NaNo buddy if you like–I’m KickboxingWriter. So far, I’m way behind, but I’m determined to catch up.
This is my fifth year, and so far, I’ve had a pretty good track record. I’ve finished four books, half of which have gone on to be published, and I’ve had lots of interest in the other two, so fingers crossed.
I understand your frustration–I never get down as many words as I’d like, but 300 a day is better than no words to day. You never give up, which is worth a lot.
Good luck!!! You got this!!!
