Editing Complete! #IWSG

Posted on November 4, 2026 by Loni Townsend

Happy IWSG day, everyone!

Whooboy. October was rough for me. My family is one of procrastinators. So in true Townsend fashion, we waited until the last month of my daughter’s driver permit timeline to get in her night-driving hours. Honestly, it’s much easier to do so when it’s actually dark at 8PM instead of at 10PM and I am in bed already, but still, we did cram in her final 6 hours in the last week before she took her tests. She did excellent on both her skills and knowledge tests, so everyone beware: we have a newly licensed driver out on the streets. I’m not worried. (Well, okay, the parental terror never truly dissipates, but I am confident in her driving ability.) But because we had to do the night driving, I shoved all my other evening activities, such as critiquing, to the backburner. So I fell behind on my writerly obligations, and then further evenings were taken up by trying to finish my daughter’s wings for Halloween, which were also a result of procrastination. *sigh*

Regardless of falling behind on my critiquing, I did manage to finish my edits for book 1! I’ve got a couple of beta readers looking at it now, and then it’ll be editing book 2 to accommodate the changes I made to book 1. But what I want to do most is have a sit down and figure out the latter half of book 3. I have a vague “they have a revolution and overthrow the bad guy” plan, but the details are sorely lacking.

IWSG Question of the Month – As a writer, do you have favorite themes that you like to explore in your stories? If so, what are they?

I tend to gravitate toward obsession and the inability to let go. That might say something about me, since I’ve been working on this one book series for nearly 30 years…

What kind of themes do you find in your stuff? Do you ever get obsessed with something and can’t move past it? Are you a creature of procrastination as well?

I had to cram in my daughter’s nighttime and highway driving in the end, too, so she could use my late husband’s car to drive herself where she needed to go after he died. Abandoning your driving was for a good cause. I hope she gets her license soon. And congrats on finishing your edits of book 1. You’re making lots of progress.

At least she passed and is driving! Good to hear the first book is with readers.

    Congrats to your daughter!

And congrats to you for finishing your Book 1 edits!! And I chuckled at the ‘vague plan for the latter half of book three’ part because I’m having a similar experience with my book four. 🙂

Whoopie! Edits done. Beta readers on the job. Sounds like you are moving ahead!

And you did all of this while ushering your daughter through the driver’s licensing experience. Good Mom!
